Judges Feedback From The Newcastle Live Show, Under 18’s Category

This weekend the judges were in Newcastle! Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Journal Tyne Theatre in Newcastle on 3.10.10 Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!

Judges at Newcastle included local singer songwriter Hannah Taylor, Vocal Tutor’s Helena Davison Webber and Nikki Robertson, Claire Beattie from Prestige Management and Future Music’s Chris Grayston

Under 18’s

Ethan Bates; Chris; very brave doing an acapella but was an obvious cover and difficult to impress with that song choice. Helena; lots of potential, good range Hannah; would love to see you again with some accompaniment

Annabel Pattinson; Chris; Was solid vocally try and perform with more passion and watch the tuning of the guitar. Nikki; gorgeous tone to the voice Hannah; preferred the original track

 Georgia Hale; Helena; good performer Nikki; great performance, loosen up a little and show how much you are enjoying yourself Chris; Use the stage to show off that powerful voice.

Lucy McSorley; Chris; Lovely tone to your voice just take care with the guitar playing as sometimes didn’t flow and this didn’t aid the singing. Nikki; absolutely love your voice, flawless transition into second song. Lovely, well done.

Niamh Haddrick; Chris; Very rich vocal and a solid performance Claire; very confident Helena; loved the voice but didn’t like image

Scarlett; Nikki; brilliant, you look so comfortable on stage Chris; good choice of song backed up with a confident performance.

Bethany Johnson; Chris; Remember where the audience are and engage. Great to see enjoyment in the  performance.

Chloe Wealleans-Watts; Nikki; just the most beautiful voice! Work hard and you will be a star. Chris; Good idea to mix up two covers. Fantastic confidence for her age but remember to add some performance using the stage and convey the song.

Emma Wilson; Claire; confidence in her ability but not on stage little nervous Nikki; the raw material is there but really work hard on your high end

Ewan Clementson; Chris; possibly down to nerves but needs to slow down get composed will come with practice and more performance. Hannah; careful not to rush Helena; good song

Grace Davison; Chris; Good passion in the eyes which conveyed the feeling for the track well Hannah; keep relaxed when you are breathing

Harriet; Claire; powerful voice gave it everything Chris; Good use of props. Watch the vocals towards the end started to get less tight.

Hollie Shearer; Nikki; everything about it was beautiful, you did the song justice Helena; put a lot of expression into the performance Chris; Very sincere performance. Good use of dynamics in the vocal in an enjoyable performance reflected well in the Judges scores.

Holly Shahverdi; Nikki; lovely classical ability Chris; Strong classically trained voice.

Jessie Pye; Helena; talented but not different enough Chris; strong vocally but a bit heavy handed with the keys.

Keir Mather; Hannah; watch tuning issues and make more of the stage Chris; Be careful to watch the pitch control at times nice fun song to sing.

Kieron Winter; Claire; verse sung well but lost it on the chorus Nikki; really listen to your music as there were a few pitching issues Chris; chorus unfortunately was sung in the wrong key so need to work on that and use the stage.

Lauren Waine; Chris; Great she looked and potrayed like she was enjoying herself. Watch timing coming in early on occasions Claire; she has a voice for the west end

Molly Scott; Nikki; was by far the most expressive performance of the day Chris; Well if she’s this good at 8 and keeps improving and developing constantly she’ll be a star for sure Helena; good performance!

Sam Bailey; Claire; image suits the song but his voice doesn’t Hannah; smile Chris; very confident. Performance was spoilt by standing there at the end and wiping his nose the performance is from the moment the audience see you till they don’t.

Amanda Corner; Nikki; well done for trying something different, really project Helena; voice needs to be different

Bethanie Coates; Chris; Very vibrant image and strong voice worked the stage appropriately Claire; standard wasn’t consistent in the song, better at high parts!

Cortney Dixon; Helena; knew how to work the stage Chris; certainly went for it with the performance. Great shoes added to the good image.

Lauren Doyle; Nikki; I actually preferred it without the backing track!  Hannah; nice tone but struggled when singing accapella Claire; sweet voice

Leanne Slassor; Chris; make sure control voice sometimes a little shouty Helena; I liked Leanne
